Post update (My sister’s and my own Minna Parikka accessories)!

Although the main theme of this blog is to present only true vintage outfits and items, one of the most popular post of this blog not related in any way to vintage items. Believe it or not, but "My sister’s and my own Minna Parikka accessories" post is one of the most viewed ones almost every month. So I thought that you may like to check some more of these funny accessories. Am I right? Me and my sister are crazy shoppers, so also our Minna Parikka accesories collection keeps growing. So click HERE to view the same old post now updated with our latest purchases!

You can find me also on Instagram now! Link is below:

It's my personal (and public!) account, but unlike this blog, it is not dedicated to vintage issues only. For this reason, the account is not even named after this blog. Hope to see you there (also)!

Nightly ride to Western Finland

I’ve long been looking for a nice kitchen table with matching chairs. Due to my Love’s recent home decor enthusiasm, I’ve browsed a lot of old decor pictures and ads in internet, on books and magazines with him…

…and found breathtaking piece of furniture in wonderful colors.

I've been looking for a dining set also overseas, but haven’t found anything interesting. So was I happy as I can be when I found a complete set (a table and four chairs) for sale in online webshop here in Finland one day!

Seller didn’t want to reserve the dining set for anyone, so the only way to make it ours, was to be fast and go on the spot for a deal. Unfortunately, the seller lived some 400 kilometers (about 250 miles) away from us… Anyway, I was decided to get the set, so me and my Love headed for a nightly drive across the Southern Finland leaving around 6 p.m. on Friday night. We arrived in the light of the full moon at midnight there and made the deal. We were back home at seven on the Saturday morning... I had a day off the work on the Saturday (lucky me!) but my Love had to leave for a work trip right away! So, maybe you would like to see what I got? Well, here comes some pictures…

I have never seen a chair back like this one before!

Funniest detail ever: the dining set is completely same color as my Love’s Cadillac from year 1952!

Ruffles, Rhinestones & The Rapiers

Oh my goodness, it's been over a half year since my last post and I even haven’t any good reason (or even excuse) why this way. Anyway, let's fix this fact right away with this new outfit post!

This is probably worst time of the year to start blogging again, because soon we’ll be living in the middle of the darkest time of the year here in Finland. And, unfortunately, my old and cheap camera needs a lot of daylight for taking proper pictures. Nowadays, when blogs are filled with beautiful and good quality pictures, my dim pics taken with a flash look very retro (in a very bad way)...

Few weeks ago was organized, once again, a Rock 'n' Roll Night event in Järvenpää (small town nearby Helsinki, Finland). The last band of the night was The Rapiers (60's style British Beat group) and I was excited! I’d seen the band the last time about ten years ago, I loved it then and I still love it much!

And then to the point, the outfit of the night:

What was your very first vintage garment?

Elina, from lovely Hopeapeili Blog, published a very interesting post in her blog a little while ago. In the post she wondered what her oldest owned garment was and she also presented her blog readers the same question. The post was really nice and the comment box filled quickly. I thought to continue a little bit same theme and to present to you my very first vintage garments, tell the stories behind them and to ask you what were your very first vintage garments.

I purchased my very first vintage clothes and accessories already as a teenager. The cloth which has retained its place in my wardrobe for the longest time must be this, my mom’s old, Boutique 32 labelled dress. Its origin is the same as probably with many others novice vintage dressers, it was found from own granparents’ attic (in late 1990’s or early 2000’s).

Then my old friend. In my wardrobe there has been, almost as long as previous dress, this Mono labeled, English-made winter coat. I found it from a flea market in Helsinki. Lining of the coat was completely torn but the remainder of the coat was in perfect condition. Seamstress made a new lining to the coat and it has been my most used coat also during this winter!

I also found one old picture of this coat. The picture is from the beginning of the 2000’s (apologies for the poor quality of the pic, it is scanned from the old paper pic). Black go-go boots, which are shown (quite poorly) in the picture, are also one of my very first vintage purchases which are still with me.

Here is one of my longest owned 50’s dresses. I found this dress from the local flea market and I have owned it for a long time, but I just realized that I've never been wearing it!

So, now I would like to know what your very first vintage garments were and when and where did you find them?

Western mood

We spent our first mini holiday of this year in the spa hotel on the first weekend of February when there was organized Ladybug Rock 'n' Roll Weekender. This was already their seventh (annual) weekender. This was the first time we took part in the event and we loved it! The event was very well organized. In addition to great bands and artists (PatC Miller [Sweden], Terry O'Connell & his Pilots [Sweden], Charlie Thompson [UK] and so on…) there was a lot of nice program for the whole weekend, like a pool party in the spa, glow bowling alley and very lovely VintagEija's Fashion Show.

On the Saturday evening I was wearing a western inspired outfit. I found this fringed sweater from eBay UK before last fall, and I love it! This time I decided to wear it with a brown western skirt.

I also had a white belt, a white box purse and white wedges with fringed ankle straps that I bought as deadstock.

For jewelry I chose horse-shaped earrings because of wanting to achieve a fully western mood.

Purple day dress

When I started this blog, first thing that I did, was publishing once again all the posts that were previously published on the Finnish Fintage Fashion Show blog. But there was one post I forgot to publish then. Now that we have begun real winter weather, since the temperature had fallen already to minus 36 degrees Celsius (minus 97 degrees Fahrenheit!) somewhere in Finland, I thought that it’s the time to re-publish this wintery outfit post. So, here it comes…

***

Cold winter days are still here, so it is time to have the warmest dresses out from a closet. I purchased this basic boucle wool dress from a theater flea market couple years ago. It is really warm one and comfortably soft!

In addition to that I have purple box purse, which is one of my latest purchases. I bought it from eBay a couple weeks ago. My purple strap wedges are from Etsy and fancy purple earrings are from Viva Las Vegas event.

My vintage shopping diary & top 3 finds of 2015

Well, it's time to say goodbye to the Year 2015. Let's take look back into this year with my vintage shopping diary. Actually I made vintage purchases in 2015 less than usual (I will be from year to year more pickier…), but I was not left bare handed this year either.

I also listed my top 3 vintage finds of 2015.

Place: 3: Novelty purse with hand painted geisha girl and beads.

It really seems that you can never know what will be the next find!

Place 2: Koret of California labeled full skirt with African themed novelty print.

This print was not in my closet, but this was rectified for good now!

Picture: Savvy Spinster Vintage

And then THE found of the year. Lightning cannot strike the same place twice? False, at least in this case. Please read this post, and you know what I mean. I found the dress of my dreams over again, but this time with a different top.

Place 1: Sears Roebuck & Co labeled novelty print dress.

Christmas Greetings!

I wanted to write this quick post just to let you know that this blog is still alive and, of course, to wish You all a Merry Christmas! I have been quite busy lately but fortunately in a very pleasing way, I have been a Maid of Honor for my sister (and by the way purchased four Maid of Honor’s dresses for myself!) and naturally had organized the bridal shower for her too. I have also made some vintage shopping as always and can’t wait to get to share my finds with you during the next year.

So now I’m wishing You a Merry Christmas and hope that you will visit here in The Lucky Bubbles also next year!

My all-time favorites: My bra and bustier tops

“My all-time favorites” is post series in which I present some of my and my sister’s favourite items by theme.

***

When people ask me sometimes what kind of vintage clothes I like the most, the answer is quite easy: wearable casual clothes (especially bra and bustier tops). I simply adore them! They can be paired endlessly with colorful novelty skirts, pedal pushers, tiny shorts and so on…

Unfortunately it's become harder and harder to find these and the prices of the vintage tops have gone out of control. The tops are sold often in just minutes, and it seems that you really have to be in the right place at the right time, if you gonna get the top in wearable size of your own now days. Maybe this is one reason why I like my own little collection more and more. In following pictures are presented some of my favorite ones from my closets.

Vintage bustier tops, like this one, are often so sturdy and well boned that you can easily wear them without bra. The same cannot be said of the modern tops.

LABEL: Edith Lane Beach Wear Originals - Julius Garfinckel & Co. Washington

I love everything in this top! I found it from eBay UK in a very reasonable price.

LABEL: Serena

This top has been seen previously in this post.

LABEL: Charmode - Sears Roebuck & Co.

 LABEL: St Michael

Similar to this top was on sale in turquoise on eBay a couple of years ago, but I lost the auction then. This spring I found the top in black. Thanks to fifties mass production!

LABEL: An Original Top Her Creation

One of my Queen Casuals labelled tops.

LABEL: Queen Casuals

It is often said that one of the cornerstones of the every woman’s wardrobe is a white blouse. If you ask me, 50’s vintage girl’s ”white blouse” is definitely bustier top in white (and black too).

I saw this top on sale also in lime green on Etsy but unfortunately it was already reserved for someone.
