Spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs

On the last weekend of October was organized a Rock 'n' Roll Night event in Hyvinkaa (small town nearby Helsinki, Finland) has meant to me already for some years the opening of the “winter party season” in Finland and as such, it worked out to be also this autumn. However, my outfit was not very winter like, because I wanted to get to wear my new dress purchase…

…that was spades, hearts, diamonds and club printed cotton day dress of black, pink, light yellow and light blue colors.

On the dress was rhinestone decorated bodice, so I chose for handbag the Florida Handbags labelled Lucite handbag that has also some rhinestone decoration. In addition to that I had blue vinyl sandals and yellow earrings.

I had won a little while a gift card of VintagEijas’s vintage shop from a lovely Hopeapeili blog anniversary lottery, so as fast as we had arrived at the hotel we headed for her shop stall. My friend found a big pile of thing to try on and so was I too soon…

…I fell in love with this strapless dress with velvet trims, but sadly it did not fit me and I had to hand over the dress back to Eija, who sold the dress on during the same night.

After the fitting hassle and a couple of drinks we went back to our room to change clothes for the evening. When my friend opened her suitcase, I was sold with that. From her suitcase she took out a pink Emma Domb labelled party dress for the evening, perfect or what do you think?

Little library of a Vintage Girl – part 1

Originally posted on September 6th, 2013

Today is for a change a time for special edition of a posting, instead of full outfits I present this time something else very important according to my vintage hobby. I have had idea of this post in my mind for a certain time, and I begin it now with this first part and more will follow some other time again.

As much I like to find vintage for my closets, I like to find information about the history of fashion, designers and manufacturers etc. For this reason I have collected my ”small library”, which I can use for an inspiration and hints for my own outfits.

In this posting I present few of my favorites from my own and my sister’s bookshelf. So something for reading during the darkening autumn nights. I want to present several books at this this time, so the descriptions will be rather short. My intention is not to make full reviews, but just instead of that give some hints about books which are worth of look to inside.

Firstly an endless source of inspiration, a series of that I have mentioned before in this blog. In this series there are full pages of clothes and accessories of from the Sears Catalogues. This series contains at least the decades from 1930s to 1980s having three different sections for each (early-, mid- and late years).

My latest purchase

Originally posted on August 9th, 2013

We made a weekend trip to Stockholm last weekend and our plan was, of course, to go vintage shopping. We had made a good “shopping plan”, chosen shops, planned visiting routes and found out opening hours of the shops. The plan was good, but we found really hardly anything interesting.

We started the day from Sivletto.

From Sivletto I made the only vintage buys of the whole trip. Last time I found there a full bag of shoes, skirts and knit wear, but this time it all was only one bathing suit. Sivletto is one of my favorites in Stockholm, and always fun to visit even nothing special is found.

A sunny weekend in the summer is not the best time shopping time, at least when most of the places to visit are the small specialty shops. Although we had sorted out opening hours in advance, some shops were closed just for that weekend. On a door of a one shop note said, “Sorry, closed today because it is just too warm day to work”, and on the door of vintage shop called Lisa Larsson was found the note on the picture below.

Here are all my purchases. The light weight bamboo shelf which was a homecoming gift, was also from Sivletto. My shopping companion vintage-buys were only one 1940’s neck tie (for her hubby).

And then to the point. The outfit of today.

At this time I introduce my latest purchase, the black and white bathing suit, I bought from Sivletto. I could not resist this combination of wide hem and strapless top!

On the background you can see a small part of biggest sand castle in Finland.

Black and white sunglasses and milk glass earrings are from Nasta.

Heat wave

Originally posted on July 12th, 2013

Heat wave had spread over to Finland by the weekend before the last. In the town it was stifling hot, so we decided to drive to the country side and go right away by the lake. Destination was sweet, mini size island called Cat Island, by which we took couple pics of my daily outfit.

I bought this pink bathing suit from a vintage shop called Play it Again Sam a few years ago. Lucite confetti clamper bracelet and matching earrings I had as a birthday present from my mom this year and the sunglasses I found from Etsy this spring. At that night was my friend’s birthday party, so I had made a big bun already in the morning for the evening.

I do not have a summer holiday at all in this summer, but I want to enjoy all the joys of the summer, organize parties, go to parties and happenings, spend time on the lake, etc… This is why I’m really, really busy girl and I am going to skip one posting in this month. I’ll be back again on the August 10th!

It’s my bowling party!

Originally posted on June 28th, 2013

Friends, strikes and bubblies, those were included in my birthday party on the other Friday. I had invited my friends to go bowling with me, and the night was superb!

At that night I was wearing my new favorite colour, green. I purchased this Betty Barcley dress from eBay some time ago and it is one of my favorites at the moment. For shoes I had chosen white mules, and my purse was white wicker purse. The shoes and ball (purple one) which are in the pic are rented from the bowling hall (not vintage).

For jewellery I had the matching sports jewels: pins and bowling balls earrings and bracelet.

Brunswick labelled bowing bag, ball and shoes I bought years ago from the local old-goods store. The bag is not very feminine and I do not even know its age, but there are fun memories with it, so I have kept it. In fact, my dream is to find a pink bowling set at an appropriate size one day.

I have also received some lovely birthday presents that you certainly will see in my upcoming posts! Here is already a little tasting of the coming…

Dress of my dreams

Originally posted on June 14th, 2013

Today there is a reason for celebration. It is my birthday and in addition to that tomorrow it is a full year since my first Fintage Fashion Show -posting! Thank you all for lovely comments that you have left throughout the whole year! On this special day I will present a dress which is very special for me.

I was about sixteen years old when I browsed through the Sears’ 1958 Spring / Summer Mail Order Catalogue pictures. Then I saw the dress of my dreams, it was wide hem day dress with colorful, Japanese motif print on the hem and collar. After the first sight, I returned to this catalog picture every now and then, and every time I saw the dress again I was equally fascinated! This spring, many years after I had seen the dress for the first time, long-term wish came true and I found the dress. I had never tried to look for it, and now I found it quite by accident!

The other Saturday, I packed my bags and I went to visit my sister. We stopped along the way to see an old railway station.

Unfortunately, the trains have not anymore stopped at the station by some years, so if you want a ride from this station, you have to find another means of transportation…

…And in this case it wouldn’t be an bad option at all, or what do you think about my brother-in-law’s AJS 18 motorbike from 1951?

When we got there we started the night out with my sister at the Summer Opening Party at Minna Parikka Universum. After that we continued to Restaurant Kaisaniemi for a Rock ‘n’ Roll party.

I was wearing for the first time my new dress, which I had added a black belt. For the shoes I had chosen black sandals.

I also had Wilardy labeled Lucite purse which I received as a present from my sister a some time ago.

For jewellery I had white charm bracelet and matching earrings. All my travelling gear was packed in my weekend bag, which I bought few years ago from Ofelia Second Hand Market.
